I did eight full hours of tactical rappelling recently. Tons of fun. I got to try a few techniques that I haven't tried before. Great stuff.
I did suffer a sore shoulder though because I still don't have the basic quick step off the wall down to my satisfaction. I can manage without all my gear on, but when I'm wearing everything it throws my balance off and wants to pull me down that much harder.
Fun stuff though. |

| me and my team are training tac rappelling once a mounth. we practice stepping, jumping, walking on the wall... a good exercise: the instructor go to the half of the rock/wall, and started showing numbers with his hand. you come down, transiting your weapon left to right, right to left, and repeat the numbers. important: if you can do anything in the rock, you can do that in the wall easy! you try to use figure eight, grigri, id, petzl stop, and any others... try using booth hands, booth side. moving left-right, jumping one foot, take big steps down, go under your foot, turn to invert, and like this... |

| We train on it every now and then, but I don't think that we would use it on a real operation. |

the balance thing is a question of how you rig your gear and the fact your probly usin a leg bag for rope deployment, that always gets everybody, and me the first time as well
you can put your pistol drop leg and mags on the other leg to even it out, or mebe your body position is not far enough back in the "L" when your starting off, try to lean your head back and lean to the opposite side of the leg bag.
other than that, the trick is you gunna have to flex yall leg bag side harder that the other leg to keep them level depending on wether your descending empty space or bounding. _________________ regards, The Mad Bastard |
